In general terms – Both overweight and obesity are when one’s Body Mass Index (BMI) is unhealthy.

Body Mass Index is a measure of weight in relation of height.

18.5 – 24.9Normal
25.0 – 29.9Overweight
30.0 – 34.9ObesityI
35.0 – 39.9ObesityII
≥ 40Extreme ObesityIII

Calculation of BMI :

Calculate Body Mass Index (BMI) =

Weight (Kg) / Height squared (meters)

Weight (pounds) x 703 /Height squared (inches)

विकृति – Pathophysiology

Obesity is resulted from disruption of अग्नि (Agni)
Agni is responsible for conversion of food in seven basic धातु (Dhatu – elements – building blocks)
These seven Dhatu are Ras – Rakta – Mamsa – Med (fat) – Asthi – Majja -Shukra

Disrupted agni resulted in production of low quality of Dhatus (Specially Med Dhatu – Fat tissue), which are called Aam (Toxins)

Increased low quality of Dhatus, clogged communication channels श्रोतस (Shrotas), which carries nutrients and dhatus throughout the body.

The clogging of Shrotas aggravate Vata Dosha (वात दोष)

Aggravated Vata Dosha further disturb the Agni, causing repetition of events which causes obesity.

This cyclic process is responsible for obesity.

Evaluation of emotional factors causing obesity and removal / avoidance of these emotional factors is necessary in successful treatment of obesity.

A strong commitment is the first and foremost requirement apart from all above treatment. Because most of the time people left the treatment in short duration of time and wanders from one doctor to another, jumping from one treatment to another, trying different methods.

It is advisable to give reasonable amount of time to any treatment or diet regimen or daily regimen to see it’s positive effects.
